New Delhi. Patna High Court has canceled the decision of Samrat Chaudhary Government of Bihar to reduce the security of Independent Lok Sabha MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav from ‘Y+’ category to ‘Y’ category. The court termed the move as arbitrary and capricious and said it violates the principles of natural justice. A single-judge bench headed by Justice Jitendra Kumar directed the Bihar Home Secretary to restore the ‘Y+’ category security given to the Purnia MP, which was reduced in September 2025. The Patna High Court was hearing a writ petition filed by Yadav, in which he had sought to increase his security in view of alleged threats to his life and property from criminal gangs.

Actually, Pappu Yadav had filed a petition in the High Court saying that he was in danger to his life. He had told that he was receiving threats from Lawrence Bishnoi gang and other criminal gangs, hence his security should be increased.

After this, on August 9, 2025, the Bihar government increased his security to Y+. But about one and a half months later, on 23 September 2025, the government reduced the security to Y without giving any clear reason. The court also found that there was no report from any security agency which stated that the threat against Pappu Yadav had reduced. After this decision of the court, it is clear that Purnia MP will once again be under Y+ category security.

Provide security based on reports from security agencies

The court has directed the Home Department of the Government of Bihar to immediately provide Y+ category security to Pappu Yadav. Also, the government has been asked to consider all the facts and reports of security agencies before taking any decision to security in future.
