For Arsenal fans, the wait is finally over. After 22 long years, the Premier League title is back with the Gunners. In fact, them winning the title was confirmed with the last game of the season still left to play.

FA Cup Winners Will Not be EPL Champions This Season

The EPL season ends on May 24 but May 19 saw Arsenal crowned champions. Why? Because Manchester City dropped points vs Bournemouth. Just three days after being crowned FA Cup winners, City took on Bournemouth in their penultimate match and it was in the opposition’s den.

Manchester City’s Draw Gives Arsenal the Title

On May 18, Arsenal beat Burnley 1-0 to go five points clear of City. Of course, at that time, City had a game in hand and if they beat Bournemouth, the difference would be just two points going into the final match of the season. But City were held to a 1-1 draw by Bournemouth. In fact, they would have lost but for a late equaliser. That made Arsenal’s lead four points which confirmed them as the new EPL winners. Now even if Arsenal lose their last match and City wins, the Gunners shall be champs by virtue of a one-point lead.

22-Year Wait Ends

Arsene Wengers ‘Invincibles' did it in 2004. Now, Mikel Arteta’s boys have crossed the line. The title has finally come back to them after over two decades and the wait has made the feeling that much sweeter. The key is now to hold on to it and bring it back next season as well.

But now Arsenals’ eyes are on a greater prize. Yes, we are talking about the Champions League. Amid their EPL success, the Gunners also qualified for the Champions League final. On May 30, they will face PSG in the summit clash. Should they win it, it shall be a maiden title for Arsenal. Can 2026 be a double delight?

Arsenal have only played one Champions League final and lost to Barcelona in 2006. Twenty years later, they have a chance to do one better.
