Eight foreign nationals — six Russians, one Ukrainian and one Kyrgyz citizen — have been deported from Vietnam after authorities found they had breached immigration regulations by engaging in activities inconsistent with their visa status.

Police in Khanh Hoa Province, home to popular resort city Nha Trang, said on May 19 that one of them entered the country through a visa exemption program, while the other seven arrived on tourist visas, Vietnam News Agency reported.

They left Vietnam from Cam Ranh International Airport, around 35 kilometers from downtown Nha Trang.

Officials said the group was cited and fined for working in ways that did not match the purposes stated on their visas, as well as for conducting professional activities without approval from competent agencies.

Speaking at a conference held in Ho Chi Minh City on May 15, Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General Pham The Tung said Vietnam would strengthen the management of foreigners living and traveling in the country, but maintain open visa and immigration policies aimed at supporting tourism, investment, and economic growth.

Vietnam received more than 22.8 million foreign arrivals last year, 18% up from 2024 and the highest ever in a year.

This year there have been more than nine million arrivals, a 22.5% increase year-on-year.
