Barcelona are reportedly eager to secure Marcus Rashford on a permanent transfer from Manchester United.
After spending the last 18 months away from Old Trafford, Rashford has somewhat faded from the spotlight at Manchester United.
The English forward has been on loan at Barcelona this season, where he has impressed by netting 14 goals across all competitions for the reigning La Liga champions.
However, questions about his long-term future remain unresolved, with his current Manchester United contract running until 2028.
As per a report from Mundo Deportivo, Rashford has reached an agreement in principle over a three-year contract with Barcelona.
The 28-year-old is said to have accepted a salary that is 40 per cent lower than what he currently earns at United, though the deal will need to be restructured.
A possible five-year contract is being considered to allow Barcelona to distribute the transfer cost over a longer duration, helping them manage their ongoing financial challenges.
The Catalan side hold an option to make Rashford’s move permanent for £26 million, but they are hesitant to activate the clause due to financial constraints.
Manchester United, on the other hand, are unwilling to lower their asking price, resulting in a deadlock despite Rashford’s apparent desire to continue at Camp Nou.
The situation is further complicated by Rashford’s high wages. Following Casemiro’s expected departure, Rashford is set to become United’s highest-paid player, which adds to the difficulty of finalising the deal.
When asked earlier this month about his future at Barcelona, Rashford responded, “I don't know, I am not a magician. If I was, I would stay. We will see.”
Back in December, he shared his admiration for the club, saying, “I feel very lucky and fortunate that this is one of the places I’ve been able to play for. It’s a massive club, one I’ve always admired since I was a young boy – my favourite club outside of England.”
He added, “The football played here is incredible, as many fans around the world know. Wearing this shirt gives me a wonderful feeling.”
Rashford seems to have found a place where he feels comfortable and valued, but whether he will continue his journey with Barcelona remains uncertain.
