IMD Weather Update: Heatwave havoc in North India, mercury crosses 45 in Delhi and ‘red alert’ issued in UP

The desert town of Sriganganagar recorded the hottest in the state at 46.5 degrees Celsius, while it was 45.3 degrees Celsius in Pilani and 44.8 degrees Celsius in Phalodi-Bikaner. At the same time, the torture of severe heatwave continued in Punjab and Haryana, where the mercury reached 46.9 degrees Celsius in Rohtak, Haryana and 46.6 degrees Celsius in Bathinda, Punjab. The hottest day of this season was also recorded in Chandigarh, where the mercury rose 5 degrees above normal and reached 44.4 degrees Celsius. Heat wave havoc in Uttar Pradesh, these cities are as hot as a furnace. The heat wave in Uttar Pradesh has taken the most aggressive form. The day temperature remains between 40 to 48 degrees in almost all parts of the state. This heat wave is not limited to North India only. The temperature has also increased rapidly in Telangana state of South India, where mercury was recorded at 45.9 degrees in Ellapur in Jagtial district. On the other hand, if we talk about the mountains, the temperature in Dehradun, Uttarakhand has reached 40.6 degrees Celsius. At the same time, in the plains of Himachal Pradesh, the mercury is touching 44 degrees Celsius amid heat wave-like conditions, while the day temperature in Shimla has been recorded at 30.5 degrees Celsius. Big warning from the Meteorological Department: Great torture will continue for the next 7 days. If you are expecting quick relief from this scorching sun and hot winds, then the figures of the Meteorological Department may disappoint you. Naresh Kumar, senior scientist at IMD, said that this aggressive heat wave condition will continue in most parts of North-West, Central and Eastern India for the next 6 to 7 days. New and strict alert from IMD: Red Alert: ‘Red Alert’ for the next 3 days has been issued for parts of Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Eastern Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha. Orange Alert: ‘Orange Alert’ will continue for the next 6 to 7 days for Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana, Western Uttar Pradesh, entire Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. That means the temperature in Delhi-NCR will remain around 45 degrees for the whole week. Signs of slight relief from Western Disturbance on the mountains: Meteorologist Naresh Kumar, while giving a relief news, said that the heat wave which was going on in the entire Himalayan region for the past few days, may see a slight change from today. A new ‘Western Disturbance’ has become active in the mountains, due to which the effect of heat wave is expected to reduce in Jammu and Kashmir from today. However, the situation may remain a little hot in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand even today, but the temperature there will also drop in the next two days. On the contrary, the plain areas (Delhi, UP, Haryana) will have to bear the torture of this severe heat and ‘hot nights’ for the next one week. Doctors have advised all citizens not to go out in the afternoon without essential work and to keep the body fully hydrated.
