Mumbai’s Gowtham K Hari staged a strong comeback after losing the opening game to defeat Pune’s Atharva Goswami and enter the Boys Under-19 singles round of 32 in the Yonex Sunrise State Badminton Selection Tournament. Top seeds Arjun Alugvelli, Pranay Gadewar, Prakriti Sharma and Navya Ranka also progressed comfortably in their respective matches.
Mumbai: Unseeded Gowtham K Hari of Mumbai Suburban kept up his good form to rally from a first-game loss and defeat Pune’s Atharva Goswami 10-15, 15-9, 15-8 and advance to the Boys Under19 singles round of 32 in the Yonex Sunrise State Under19 Badminton Selection Tournament.
The event is organised by the Greater Mumbai Badminton Association, promoted by Badminton Gurukul at the Willingdon Sports Club.
The other matches in the age category saw seeded players advance with relative ease. Top seed Arjun Alugvelli, also of Mumbai Suburban, eased past Akola’s Adarsh Panjwani 15-7, 15-9, while fourth seed Pranay Gadewar of Nagpur beat Raigad’s Mukesh Yadav 15-9, 15-5.
The Under-19 Girls singles matches also saw seeded players advance to the round of 32 with wins. Third seed Prakriti Sharma beat Meemansha Shresh 15- 4, 15-5 and fifth seed Navya Ranka of Pune defeated Ananya Rane 15-10, 15-4.
