There is little to no doubt that Joe Root and Sachin Tendulkar are arguably the best batters to have played the game. With Tendulkar having retired from all forms of cricket, Root continues to play on and now has a chance of breaking the Indian great's long-standing Test record of most runs. Root has amassed 13943 runs in 163 games, Tendulkar has scored 15921 runs in 200 Tests. Root is 35 and looks good to continue on for a season or two still. With Root having a realistic shot at the record, he was asked about it recently.
Claiming that he gets asked this question often, Root admitted that he cannot really ignore it.
"He Made His Debut Before I Was Born"
"It's remarkable what Sachin Tendulkar achieved in the game. You have to believe me when I say that to even be in the conversation with him is enough for me. The guy made his Test debut before I was born and played in my Test debut! His longevity in itself is remarkable and then you look at the runs he got in Test cricket... but not only that, he's got 50 ODI hundreds, too," he said while speaking with The Athletic.
