After a turbulent season in which Tottenham Hotspur went through three different managers, Mauricio Pochettino still stands as the club’s longest-serving head coach since the iconic Bill Nicholson.
The Argentine tactician managed 293 matches for Spurs between 2014 and 2019, guiding them to four successive top-four finishes in the Premier League and leading the team to the 2019 Champions League final.
That period cemented Pochettino’s place as one of the most admired managers in Tottenham’s modern history, and his affection for the north London outfit clearly remains strong.
As the 54-year-old prepares to take charge of co-hosts the United States at this summer’s World Cup, he has revealed that he would consider returning to Spurs in the future if the right situation arose.
“Yes, why not?” Pochettino told FourFourTwo when asked about the possibility of one day coming back to manage in the Premier League.
Any potential return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, however, would depend on timing and circumstances. “If the right conditions are there, of course. Tottenham feels like home to us,” he added.
“We identify with the club’s traditions, values, and supporters,” the former Spurs boss continued.
Since leaving Tottenham, Pochettino has managed Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea before taking on his current role with the United States national team. Despite his experience with some of Europe’s biggest clubs, his hunger for success remains undiminished.
“Right now, it’s about enjoying the World Cup,” he explained. “After that, I’ve always said that I came very close to winning the Premier League and the Champions League, and I want to try again. I’d love to be part of a project built around the ambition of winning both.”
