Manchester City have officially announced that Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders has completed his transfer from AC Milan, marking another high-profile addition as Pep Guardiola continues his heavy summer investment.
Reijnders becomes the fourth new arrival at the Etihad Stadium in what has been a busy transfer window for the Premier League champions. The Netherlands international follows Rayan Ait-Nouri, Marcus Bettinelli, and Rayan Cherki in joining the Manchester City squad this summer.
City have paid £46 million (€54m/$62m) for the 26-year-old, who was named Serie A’s Midfielder of the Season for the 2024-25 campaign. The Dutch star arrives to bolster City’s midfield after the departure of club legend Kevin De Bruyne. Known for his composure, creativity, and elegant style of play, Reijnders is expected to play a key role in Guardiola’s efforts to rebuild the side following a below-par campaign last season.
Speaking to Manchester City’s official website, Reijnders expressed his joy at joining the club, saying: “I am ecstatic to be signing for Manchester City. City are one of the biggest teams in the world, with the best coach, world-class players, and outstanding facilities. Under Pep Guardiola, City have won so many titles, and I want to help keep that going with a lot more success in the coming years. It is also a dream come true to play in the Premier League. This league has seen many of the best Dutch players perform through the years and it’s an inspiration to follow in their footsteps. I am really looking forward to getting going, meeting the other players, and showing the Manchester City fans what I can do.”
Manchester City’s director of football, Hugo Viana, described Reijnders as an exciting and valuable addition to the squad. He commented: “We are very happy that Tijjani has joined us, and we’re excited for him to join Pep’s squad. He arrives here with extensive top-level experience in Europe both at club level as well as on the international stage with the Netherlands. Tijjani adds extra energy, composure, and creativity to our midfield, and working with Pep and our coaches will only see him go from strength to strength.”
Reijnders is expected to make his first appearance for Manchester City at the Club World Cup, where the Cityzens will begin their campaign against Wydad FC on 18 June.
