The investigation into the NEET UG 2026 paper leak case is intensifying continuously. So far, 11 individuals have been arrested across several cities. Following the cancellation of the examination, resentment among students and parents has escalated.

The country’s largest medical entrance examination, NEET-UG 2026, has found itself embroiled in controversy this time around. News of the paper leak surfaced just days after the examination concluded, triggering a nationwide uproar. Millions of students and their families have raised questions regarding the integrity of the examination system. Given the gravity of the matter, investigative agencies initiated immediate action, and several individuals have since been arrested.

Major Action Taken Against Physics Teacher in Pune

In this case, the arrest of Manisha Sanjay Havaldar—a senior physics teacher from Pune, Maharashtra—has become a major talking point. It is reported that she had been teaching at a private school for a long time and was nearing retirement. According to investigative agencies, she had been enlisted as an expert within the examination process. It is alleged that certain questions were leaked to other individuals prior to the examination. She was arrested following interrogation; immediately thereafter, the school administration placed her under suspension. The school has termed this entire episode a betrayal of the trust placed in the education system and has initiated an internal inquiry of its own.

Network Spans Across Multiple Cities

According to investigative agencies, the paper leak scandal is not confined to a single city. Accused individuals have been arrested in cities such as Delhi, Jaipur, Gurugram, Pune, Nashik, Latur, and Ahilyanagar. A total of 11 individuals have been apprehended thus far. The ongoing investigation aims to uncover the precise mechanics of how the entire paper leak network operated and to identify all the individuals involved. Officials have also seized mobile phones, laptops, and other electronic devices belonging to several of the accused.

Impact on 2.3 Million Students

The NEET-UG 2026 examination was held on May 3. The exam was conducted across 551 cities nationwide and at 14 centers abroad. Approximately 2.3 million students participated in it. However, following reports of a paper leak, concerns regarding the students’ hard work and future intensified. As soon as complaints regarding irregularities in the examination were received, the matter was referred to central agencies. Following an investigation, the decision to cancel the examination was taken on May 12. Subsequently, an announcement was made regarding the re-conduct of the exam.

NTA Makes Several Major Announcements

As the controversy escalated, the NTA took several measures to provide relief to the students. The agency clarified that students would not be required to re-apply for the re-examination. Furthermore, no additional fee will be charged to any student. The NTA has also introduced a fee refund facility. A dedicated portal has been created for this purpose, where students can update their bank account details. Additionally, new admit cards are set to be issued shortly.

Resentment Among Students and Parents

Following the paper leak incident, significant resentment is evident among students and parents. Many students have stated that they worked hard throughout the entire year, but this controversy has led to increased mental stress. Questions regarding the examination management system are also being continuously raised on social media platforms.
