PADANG – Suhatman Imam, the living legend and former senior player of Semen Padang FC, has tipped the Spain National Football Team to lift the trophy at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
He made this statement during an interview at his residence in Parak Karakah, Padang City, on Friday (29 May 2026).
The World Cup is scheduled to take place in June 2026. The opening match will feature Mexico against South Africa in Group A on Friday (12 June 2026) at 23:00 WIB.
This edition of the World Cup will feature a total of 48 participating countries and will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
For the 2026 World Cup, Suhatman Imam has placed his bet on Spain. His choice is based on the country's strong track record in international football.
“If I had to support one team, it would be Spain, because they have extensive experience both at club level and in international tournaments,” he said.
He also noted that the Spanish national team has a well-balanced composition of both young and senior players.
According to Suhatman, such a blend of talent ensures that players can complement each other’s strengths and weaknesses on the field.
“Besides having an impressive performance record during the qualifiers, their squad is evenly balanced between young and experienced players,” he added.
He further explained that physical endurance plays a crucial role in the World Cup, as the competition lasts for a month and involves 48 nations competing for the title.
“That’s why a mix of young and senior players is essential. If a team relies only on senior players, injuries can be a problem. With younger players in the mix, they can provide support and balance,” he said.
Despite his admiration for Spain, Suhatman admitted that he is not a die-hard fan of any particular national team at the World Cup.
In previous tournaments, he had supported various teams, including Brazil, France, and Argentina.
“I don’t stick to one team. I look at their track record, and this time, I’m going with Spain,” he concluded.
