Gujarat Titans opening batsman Sai Sudarshan’s luck has suddenly turned against him. Now Sudarshan is not being dismissed by the bowlers, rather he is unfortunately losing his wicket. On Tuesday (May 26), Sudarshan was out hit wicket in the Qualifier 1 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). He cut the ball from Jacob Duffy, which went outside the point boundary but missed his bat. Sudarshan had no idea where the bat had gone. He started running. Meanwhile, the bat fell on the pitch and hit the stumps.
Sudarshan had to return to the pavilion dejected. His early dismissal in the chase of 255 proved costly for GT. The team was all out for 162 in 19.3 overs and suffered a crushing defeat by 92 runs and missed its first chance to make it to the finals. To get the ticket for the title match, he had to face Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Qualifier 2 on Friday. In this match played in New Chandigarh, RR had set a target of 215 runs, in response to which captain Shubman Gill and Sudarshan took GT to 167 runs without any loss in 12.4 overs. GT was very close to a comfortable victory when Sudarshan was out hit wicket again.
This time the bat went straight to the stumps
Sudarshan played a shot by opening the face of the bat on Brijesh Sharma’s outside full toss ball. The ball went to the left of short third but the bat left his hand and went straight to the stumps. Sudarshan could not believe what had happened to him for the second consecutive match. Gill standing at the other end was also surprised. Sudarshan’s brilliant inning of 58 runs ended in dramatic fashion. He returned to the pavilion after being hit wicket for the third time in IPL. Let us tell you that in this league, apart from Sudarshan, no batsman has been out hit wicket more than once. Talking about overall T20, Shoaib Malik and Andre Russell have also been out hit wicket 3 times each.
Sudarshan had done his work
This time Sudarshan had done his work before getting out. When Sudarshan was out, GT needed only 48 runs from 43 balls. Gill was playing after scoring 95 runs. He completed his fifth IPL century in 47 balls. However, he too was out soon after this.
Gill played a tremendous inning of 104 runs in 53 balls with the help of 15 fours and 3 sixes. After his return to the pavilion, Jos Buttler (9 not out), Washington Sundar (16) and Rahul Tewatia (17 not out) took GT to the target in 18.4 overs without any problem. GT won the match by 7 wickets and entered the final with a bang, where it will face RCB on Sunday.
