Sip a cup of hot tea. And the solution to the world’s problems. Be it in neighborhood chat or busy office. Be it a rainy afternoon or an everyday morning. A Bengali, as well as the rest of India, cannot live without tea. This Amritsudha is not just any drink. This is the name of an emotion. A daily domestic festival. Now a new international title has been added to the familiar tea chat. India’s masala tea snatched the title of excellence on the world stage. What are you wondering?
The list of the world’s 100 best teas has been published in the latest May edition of the popular global food guide ‘TasteAtlas’. And in that list, India’s masala tea has conquered the world by occupying the first number. Of course, this information is not new to the tea lovers, they have already given this best seat in their hearts. But not just masala tea, several other gems of India’s diverse tea culture have made it to this international list. Darjeeling tea, world famous for its aroma, is ranked sixth. Strong flavored Assam tea is ranked thirteenth. Along with this Sulaimani tea from Kerala ranked 39th, Kangra tea from Himachal Pradesh ranked 41st and Jammu and Kashmir’s traditional salty pink ‘Nun Chai’ ranked 43rd.

In addition to this victory of India, the power of other countries’ tea in the world list is also worth seeing. In second place is ‘Hojisha’, a special type of roasted green tea from Japan. Right after this, the famous ‘Ceylon Black Tea’ of Sri Lanka has made its place at the third place. Back in fourth place is Japan, with their fragrant ‘Sencha’ green tea. And in the fifth place is the traditional vintage tea ‘Pu Erh’ from Yunnan province of China.

But this victory of India on the world stage did not stop only with the taste of tea. Two famous tea estates in East and Northeast India also topped the list of tea brands and gardens. One of which is ‘Makaibari Tea Estate’ in Kersiang, West Bengal. Established in 1859, this garden is recognized as one of the oldest tea factories in the world. The other is ‘Halmari Tea Estate’ in Dibrugarh, Assam. This centuries-old traditional garden is recognized worldwide for its strong and delicious tea. So, ‘Chai Pe Charcha’ in this country is not just a word but it has been proved at the international level as well. One can blend into the mainstream of this tea party even without drinking tea, that is the magic of this unique culture of India.
