Big news has come for LPG consumers across the country. The government is going to make major changes in the rules to gas connections from June 1, 2026. The purpose of the new rules is to curb misuse, hoarding and black marketing of domestic gas cylinders. In such a situation, families who have both PNG and LPG connections simultaneously need to be careful.

New rule of one family, one gas connection

The government is now preparing to implement the “one family, one connection” rule. Under this, those houses which already have PNG (Piped Natural Gas) and also have LPG connection, may have to give up one of the two connections. If the LPG connection is not surrendered within the stipulated time, its refill can be stopped.

PNG connections are increasing rapidly

PNG connections have grown rapidly across the country in the last few years. The aim of the government is to connect more and more people with pipeline gas facility. Till the month of March, lakhs of new PNG connections were issued, but despite this many consumers are also maintaining LPG connections. For this reason, the government is now identifying those having double connections.

Be prepared to surrender LPG connection

According to the new rules, it is advised to surrender the LPG connection within 30 days of getting the PNG connection. However, it is a matter of relief that in future, if needed, consumers will be able to activate the LPG connection again. This feature will be especially useful for those who shift to an area where PNG is not available.

Refill booking may be banned from June

Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and City Gas Distribution Companies have linked their digital records. With this, it can be easily found out which house has both PNG and LPG connections. Gas refill booking of consumers who do not follow the rules may be stopped.

Cylinder booking and subsidy rules also changed

Under the new rules, the lock-in period of LPG refill can be increased from 21 days to 25 days in urban areas, while in rural areas this period can be up to 45 days. Apart from this, the facility of 12 subsidized cylinders in a year will continue as before. On taking a new gas connection, there may also be changes in security deposit, regulator, pipe and installation charges.

The government believes that these new rules will make the gas distribution system more transparent and the availability of gas to needy families can be ensured in a better way.
