As Manchester United prepare for their return to the Champions League after a two-year absence, INEOS are reportedly planning an ambitious transfer window to reshape the squad.
While a midfield overhaul has been widely discussed, the Red Devils are also focusing on reinforcing their defence and wide areas. To make these moves possible, the club’s co-owners are expected to oversee several player exits, with multiple first-team futures still undecided.
In recent seasons, the 20-time English champions have strategically included sell-on clauses in player deals, ensuring potential future financial gains. One such clause could become active this summer as Mason Greenwood’s situation in France continues to attract attention.
The Manchester United academy graduate completed a £26.6 million transfer to Olympique Marseille, but following manager Roberto De Zerbi’s departure to Tottenham Hotspur, the 24-year-old forward is believed to be exploring a move away.
Interest has already emerged from clubs in both the Premier League and Serie A, and now, according to BBC reports, Turkish giants Fenerbahce have joined the pursuit for Greenwood.
Notably, both of Fenerbahce’s presidential candidates are said to be keen on signing the former United starlet. Despite Greenwood’s productive spell in Ligue 1, Marseille are reportedly open to letting him go.
Negotiating personal terms with the England international is not expected to be an obstacle for Fenerbahce, though details of any potential transfer fee have not yet been revealed.
According to reports, “Mason Greenwood is the top transfer target for both Fenerbahce presidential candidates. The former Manchester United and England forward has endured a challenging few months at Marseille.”
“The club’s new sporting director, Gregory Lorenzi, stated last week that Marseille are willing to consider offers for Greenwood, who still has three years remaining on the five-year contract he signed upon his permanent exit from United in July 2024.”
“Former president Aziz Yildirim is competing with Hakan Safi for the presidency of the Turkish club, with the election result expected on Sunday. It is understood that agreeing personal terms with Greenwood would not pose any major issues.”
Manchester United will be closely monitoring developments, as they stand to receive 50 percent of the profit from any future sale, potentially earning millions if the forward secures a big-money transfer.
