Borussia Dortmund are planning long-term with Felix Nmecha, but a potential move to the Premier League could still be on the cards this summer.

As reported by Sky, Newcastle United, Manchester United and Manchester City remain in contact with the representatives of the German international, who extended his contract with Dortmund in March, securing his stay until 2030.

When asked if Nmecha was considered untouchable, sporting director Ole Book clarified, “Felix will definitely be playing for us next season; that’s the clear plan. He’s one of the best midfielders in Germany and can easily compete at a European level. He’s absolutely crucial to the way we play.”

Despite this, Sky suggests that some uncertainty still lingers over the 25-year-old’s future at BVB. If an English club comes forward with a lucrative offer, Nmecha might push internally for a move.

Having developed through Manchester City’s academy, a return to the Premier League has always been one of the midfielder’s ambitions. However, Dortmund’s financial situation could also play a role. The club’s early Champions League exit left them €17 million short of their planned budget, with total earnings from the competition dropping by €30 million compared to the previous season. In such circumstances, turning down a massive Premier League bid might be difficult.

Currently, Dortmund holds a strong position regarding Nmecha’s future. While reports suggest that a release clause has been added to his extended contract, Bild claims it only becomes active in 2027, set at €80 million. The clause reportedly drops to €70 million in 2028. This means any club hoping to sign him this summer would likely need to offer around €100 million to convince Dortmund to part ways early.

On Tuesday, Nmecha joined the German national team ahead of the World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. Given his recent performances, he is expected to start in midfield alongside Aleksandar Pavlovic under coach Julian Nagelsmann. Strong showings on the World Cup stage could further increase Nmecha’s market value and attract even more interest from top European clubs.

The midfielder recently faced a major setback at Dortmund but is now pushing hard to earn a starting spot at the World Cup. After putting in extra work during and after the Bundesliga season, Nmecha was determined to play a key role in the tournament. However, in March, shortly before the final training camp and squad announcement, he suffered a torn lateral ligament in his knee, putting his participation in doubt. Fortunately, after a successful rehabilitation, he returned in time to secure his place in the final squad. Following the last Bundesliga matchday, he reportedly travelled to the Algarve for a personal training camp to fine-tune his preparation for the World Cup.

“Felix is a top player who has all the qualities needed to become one of the best in the world in his position,” said the national coach during the official squad announcement, expressing his admiration for the midfielder’s potential.
