New Delhi. Trinamool Congress (TMC) is struggling with rebellion. Meanwhile, the party’s National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee met Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday for about 90 minutes. According to sources, Trinamool Congress (TMC) has accepted the leadership of Rahul Gandhi and expressed its desire for a strong alliance.

However, due to this meeting, discussions about the merger of Trinamool Congress and Congress have again gained momentum in political circles. Although on Wednesday Congress has made it clear that any merger proposal should come from Trinamool, they themselves are not putting pressure on it. Only yesterday Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee had met Sonia Gandhi. Pictures of the two leaders hugging had gone viral on social media.
History of TMC and Congress
Mamata Banerjee left Congress in 1998 and formed Trinamool Congress (TMC). In 2011, both the parties together defeated the Left Front government in West Bengal, but later relations between the two parties deteriorated. Both came together again in the INDIA block before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. After this, after the defeat of Trinamool in the West Bengal Assembly Elections, the rebellion in the party has increased. Many MLAs and MPs have adopted a rebellious attitude and have indicated to move towards BJP-NDA.

At the same time, BJP leader Raju Tibrewal tauntedly said that these people can do anything for power. If Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi do not have a roof themselves, then what shelter will they give to TMC? In the current troubled situation of TMC, growing closer with Congress could be a part of Mamata Banerjee’s strategy. Both the parties are insisting on uniting against BJP, but the speculations of merger are currently limited to discussions only.
