EPFO Latest News: EPFO ​​has made e-nomination mandatory for members to ensure that nominees can easily access benefits following a member's death and to avoid legal disputes.

EPFO Nomination: Under the EPF scheme rules, EPFO ​​has made e-nomination essential for all members. A valid nomination ensures that, in the event of a member's death, PF benefits can be easily transferred to the chosen nominee.

Additionally, having a nomination in place helps prevent family conflicts and legal complications when claiming EPF funds. Since the e-nomination facility is available online via the EPFO ​​portal, members can conveniently submit the necessary information from the comfort of their homes. However, an e-nomination is considered valid only if it is e-signed in a timely manner.

What does the e-nomination document state?

The EPF e-nomination document specifies that e-nominations which have merely been filed—without the corresponding PDF being e-signed—will not be acted upon in the event of the member's death. An e-nomination is deemed complete only when the PDF has been e-signed.

Rules regarding EPF nomination

The rules for nomination differ between EPF and EPS. Under the EPF Act, a male employee's family includes his wife, children (married or unmarried), dependent parents, and the widow and children of his son. In the case of a female employee, the family includes her husband, children (married or unmarried), dependent parents, dependent parents-in-law, and the widow and children of her son.

Similarly, for EPF purposes, "family" refers to the employee's spouse, minor son or daughter, and any adopted son or daughter (provided the adoption took place prior to the member's death).
