Co-educational College: Chennai’s 184-year-old Pachaiyappa’s College, one of India’s oldest higher education institutions, has now become a co-educational institution. This decision is being hailed as a historic shift. According to the college principal, Dr. Baby Gulnaz, the Tamil Nadu government approved this change through a Government Order (G.O. No. 100) issued on June 15. Now, both male and female students will be able to study together at the college.
Established in 1842, the institution has long stood as a symbol of academic excellence and social responsibility.

The administration has described this change as a significant turning point in the college's history. The doors of the institution are now officially open to female students, paving the way for greater opportunities in higher education and fostering a better, more diverse academic environment.
The college stated that this move reinforces its commitment to inclusive education, equality, and evolving the educational system to meet the needs of changing times.
The decision has been welcomed with joy and pride by the college management, principal, faculty, retired professors, administrative staff, students, alumni, and well-wishers. The college has termed this the successful outcome of efforts made over several years.
