Lifestyle Stress Survey 2026: The 12th International Yoga Day is being celebrated across the world on Sunday, June 21, 2026. On this occasion, everyone is talking about being healthy, but in the meantime, a very surprising report has come out regarding the lifestyle and mental health of urban India. India’s famous personalized hair health platform Traya has presented to the world a big picture to the mental health of the people of the country.
This report is based on data from a diagnostic hair test conducted in March 2026. 9,42,451 Indians from across the country took part in this test, which included 5,62,088 men and 3,80,363 women. In this analysis, along with the health of people’s hair, three major habits like their mental stress level, sleeping patterns and stomach diseases have been investigated.
More than half of the men in the country are under immense stress
In this survey, the severity of men’s stress has been measured on a scale of high, moderate and low. The things that have come out show that the men of India have lost their peace and sleep. If we talk about the entire country, about 54.5% men report moderate to high stress. Of these, 7.7% are men who suffer from ‘high stress’ That is, they are victims of high stress. This is a dangerous condition that is triggered by major life events such as the death of a loved one, separation or prolonged illness.
If we talk about different areas of the country, then geographically the condition of men in South India is the worst. South India continues to top the list with 63.0% moderate-to-high stress (of which 9.0% is high stress). After this, West India is at second place with 55.1% and East India is at third place with 54.5%. At the same time, men from North India (49.8%) were found to be the most mentally calm.
The condition of men in southern metros is the worst.
Talking about the level of cities, in the report of Traya, Chennai city of Tamil Nadu tops the list of stress among men. About 65.5% men in Chennai are living under increased stress, in which 9.9% people are facing high stress. After this, Hyderabad city of Telangana is at second place with 63.6% and Bengaluru city of Karnataka is at third place with 61.7%.
This means that the three worst cities in terms of stress for men are the metros of South India. In contrast, Rajasthan’s Jaipur city (48.1%) and Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow (49.1%) proved to be the most relaxed and least stressful cities for men.

Status of women: Tension everywhere beyond geography
Traya had chosen a slightly different scale to measure stress in the survey of women, in which they were asked how often they felt stressed. There have been very scary figures at the national level, where 25.3% of women almost ‘every day’ Feel stressed. At the same time, 54.8% women remain mentally disturbed 3 to 5 times a week or several times. There are only 19.9% women in the entire country who feel calm and stress free.
In the case of women also, South India is at the forefront with 81.9%. This is followed by West India at 79.9%, East India at 79.6%, North India at 79.1% and Central India at 78.6%. The special thing is that there is only 3.3% difference between the best and worst areas among women. This clearly shows that women in India are constantly facing high stress in every section, regardless of geography. Talking about cities, 85.2% women of Chennai are under stress, while the least 75.4% women in Patna feel stressed.
