Elliot Anderson’s potential switch from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City might set off a sequence of midfield transfers, with Inter Milan and Liverpool also expected to be drawn into the mix.

Manchester City are reportedly preparing to come back with an improved bid for Anderson after their initial offer, believed to be around £106 million, was rejected by Nottingham Forest. The England international is valued by Forest at a record-breaking £125 million, which would make him the most expensive British player if the deal goes through.

Talks are still ongoing, and according to reports from Gazzetta dello Sport, Anderson’s future could be the catalyst for a series of midfield moves across Europe.

Nottingham Forest are said to have identified Inter Milan’s Davide Frattesi as their primary target to replace Anderson. The Italian midfielder, currently valued at approximately €30 million (£26 million) by the San Siro club, is seen as a suitable successor.

Inter Milan are open to parting ways with the Italy international, as his sale would help the Serie A champions generate funds to pursue their own midfield reinforcements.

Inter’s top target is Liverpool’s Curtis Jones, with the club having openly declared their interest in bringing him to Italy.

Jones, who has just one year remaining on his current contract at Anfield, is reportedly keen to consider new opportunities that would offer him a more significant role on the pitch. Earlier this month, Liverpool teammate Federico Chiesa revealed that Jones had discussed with him the idea of playing in Italy, amid growing speculation over Inter’s pursuit of the midfielder.
