The listing indicates the model number and connectivity details of Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8. The listing also suggests the chipset powering the phone. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is likely to launch next month alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip 8, potentially at the July 22 Galaxy Unpacked event.
FCC model number and US variant
As per a report by Sammyguru, Galaxy Z Fold 8 (or Wide Fold) was recently spotted on the US FCC website with model number SM-F971U. This appears to be the US version of the foldable phone. The FCC documents reportedly confirm that the handset will have a small cover display and a wider internal screen, with integrated cameras on both panels.
Chipset confirmation: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5
The FCC listing suggests the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will use Qualcomm’s modem and Smart Transmit technologysuggesting that the phone could run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. This all but confirms that the Galaxy Z Fold 8/Wide Fold is powered by a Snapdragon processor, unlike the Exynos strategy for the Z Flip 8.
Connectivity features confirmed
The FCC documents confirm the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will support Wi-Fi 7, NFC, UWB (Ultra-Wideband)and wireless charging. The phone is also expected to offer satellite communication support through NB-NTN technology. The listing also mentions features like reverse wireless charging and DisplayPort functionality.
Display and design details
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is rumoured to be equipped with a 5.4-inch cover screen and a 7.6-inch inner display. The device measures approximately 123.9 x 82.8 x 9.8mm when folded and 4.9mm when unfolded. The wider design is ideal for video playback and multitasking, addressing one of the main criticisms of previous Fold models.
