Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly planning a move to sign Marcus Rashford from Manchester United this summer, with new manager Roberto De Zerbi pushing strongly for the transfer.
Spurs narrowly escaped relegation on the final day of the Premier League season after a crucial 1-0 victory over Everton ensured their stay in England’s top division.
The north London club is determined to avoid a similar scare next season, and the board has set its sights on several high-profile signings aimed at strengthening the squad and improving their league position.
Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi have already joined Tottenham on free transfers from Liverpool and Bournemouth respectively, while the club has spent approximately £52 million to bring in Brighton centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke.
Tottenham are also pursuing Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali as a potential fourth addition, alongside efforts to finalise a deal for Manchester City winger Savinho.
According to The i Paper, Marcus Rashford has now emerged as Tottenham’s next major target in what could be their sixth signing of the summer window.
Reports suggest that Tottenham are unwilling to meet the £40 million release clause agreed between Manchester United and Rashford but are exploring the possibility of negotiating a lower fee for the England international.
At this stage, it is believed that Rashford is not actively considering a move to another Premier League side, with options such as Barcelona, Bayern Munich, or even remaining at Manchester United currently appearing more attractive to him.
However, Manchester United’s stance on the forward—who the club would reportedly prefer to sell to reduce their high wage bill—could lead Rashford to reassess his options and open the door for Tottenham to make a move.
The report further claims that Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi is a strong admirer of Rashford’s abilities and is likely to press the club’s hierarchy to pursue a deal.
It is understood that Rashford would need to accept a significant pay cut to facilitate any potential transfer, but he is said to be open to doing so if it represents the right move at this key stage of his career.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that Bayern Munich had made preliminary enquiries about Rashford after missing out on Anthony Gordon, who joined Barcelona.
On his YouTube channel, Romano explained: “There have been many questions about Marcus Rashford’s situation. Some people asked whether Bayern Munich could be an option. My understanding is that Bayern made some calls in the past two or three weeks to assess Rashford’s availability.”
He continued: “They wanted to understand if Rashford could be a realistic target, but right now, Bayern seem focused on a different type of player. For instance, Saibari is another player they are considering—technically different from Rashford but far cheaper in terms of salary and transfer cost.”
Romano concluded: “There are certainly individuals at Bayern who admire Rashford, but at this moment, there are no negotiations or bids in place. The German club’s attention is currently directed elsewhere, so Rashford is not their top priority right now.”
