Emily Blunt is super engaged with Spielberg’s new film Disclosure where she played the role of meteorologist Margaret Fairchild. Monique Eastwood who has trained the Disclosure Day star for 12 years has revealed the secret on how Emily, being a busy woman, still finds time to be consistent with her fitness routine.

Compromising with workout isn't an optionDuring busy schedules it is normal to compromise with other activities, but probably not so common with her workout sessions. As Monique informs, Emily follows the Eastwood Movement Method , which is laid on the foundations of dance.

She said “I trained as a ballerina and over the years my Eastwood Movement Method has evolved to blend dance, Pilates, yoga, high-intensity interval training (HIIT), resistance training and multidirectional movement,” to Women’s Health.

“As with all my workouts, the lower body works with the upper body constantly. Like a dancer, this way the brain stays engaged with the different sequences.”

How does Emily workout?Monique added, “With Emily, our routines often involve HIIT and strength sessions to build lean muscle mass, boost cardiovascular endurance and improve mobility – always with a strong focus on core strength and posture, she moves like a dancer.”

She reflected light on the part that the main feature of Eastwood Movement is, it focuses on the arm but is still effective for the whole body, helping to build strength, mobility, balance and power.

“My routines often involve lots of my signature multidirectional movements, which are tough but very centering and precise. I mix things up constantly – variety is important to stimulate the whole musculoskeletal system.”

But what is Emily Blunt’s arm focused strength workout ?The Eastwood Movement of Monique urges to do 10 reps per side for each exercise and suggests completing each exercise as a sequence.

Then one needs to repeat the sequence three times. According to the rules of Eastwood, they use 2kg-5kg weights, but, they advise choosing weights that can challenge you.

The workouts Curtsey leg circlesThese are performed by performing a leg circle, lowering into a double-pulse curtsey. Then follow up with circling your arms with the moving leg, keeping your palms facing upwards.

Single-leg squat with leg liftFirst lower yourself into a single-leg squat, reaching the same-arm forwards and as you stand, press that arm overhead while lifting the opposite leg. Keep your weight centred through the standing-side glute to challenge balance and stability.

ArabesqueArabesque is a technique where one starts in a long, turned-out lunge with your arms reaching forwards. Then slowly, the body has to transition into an arabesque position, extending the back leg before lightly tapping the toe down.

Then stay low, through the supporting leg to keep them in the quads. Lift your arms out to the sides in the arabesque position with your palms facing down while reaching forwards again, as you tap the back foot down and prepare for the next repetition.

Long low lungeBegin in a long, low lunge with one arm reaching forwards and the other extended to the side, palms facing down.

Then move into a curtsey position while sweeping the arms forwards on a diagonal, palms facing upwards and in the end return to the starting position and repeat.

Pile jumpsPerform plié jumps, moving in and out while keeping your torso upright and hold the weights in front of your chest throughout. The next step includes, focusing on staying lifted through the legs and landing softly.

Downward dog to plank press-up
Start in a three-legged downward dog and then bring your knee towards your elbow as you transition into a plank position. Performing a small press-up, push back into a three-legged dog and repeat.

“If we’ve had a lot of strong workouts in a week, I like to add stretch sessions to balance it all out and release any tension in the muscles,” adds Eastwood.
