President Donald Trump has put forward Lance Schroyer as his choice for the next director of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). In a social media update, Trump commended Schroyer's extensive law enforcement experience, spanning over 29 years in Oklahoma, and urged the Senate to expedite his confirmation.
Schroyer, a former Oklahoma State Trooper and US Marine, has significant operational expertise, particularly in fostering collaborations between local law enforcement and ICE through the federal 287(g) program. Trump highlighted Schroyer's direct involvement in the removal of undocumented immigrants from communities across the US, emphasizing his strong support for ICE personnel.
The President asserted that Schroyer possesses the necessary qualifications to "detain and deport" undocumented individuals convicted of serious offenses such as murder, rape, and drug trafficking, claiming that this would occur at an unprecedented rate. Trump also stated that his administration has recorded the highest daily arrest rates by ICE and US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in history, although he did not provide any supporting evidence for this claim.
In his call for immediate action, Trump urged the Senate to swiftly confirm Schroyer's nomination, stating that his leadership would contribute to the administration's objective of enhancing safety in the United States.
