On Saturday, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) unveiled a brief 38-second video showcasing recent airstrikes executed by American forces targeting various locations in Iran on June 27. This military action was authorized by the Commander in Chief as a reaction to ongoing Iranian assaults on commercial shipping. CENTCOM reported that these strikes were initiated after Iran allegedly breached a ceasefire agreement by deploying a one-way attack drone that hit the Panama-flagged oil tanker M/T Kiku at 4:30 a.m. ET while it was navigating near the Strait of Hormuz, carrying over two million barrels of crude oil.
“Following the US strikes in response to the Iranian attack on M/V Ever Lovely, Iran was given an opportunity to adhere to the ceasefire agreement but chose not to,” CENTCOM stated. The US military's operations targeted Iranian military surveillance systems, communication networks, air defense installations, drone storage sites, and minelayer capabilities. “CENTCOM forces executed strikes today as a direct response to Iran's persistent aggression against commercial shipping. Vessel transits through the Strait of Hormuz are ongoing. US forces remain alert, lethal, and prepared,” the statement emphasized.
In the aftermath of the strikes, President Donald Trump accused Iran of violating the ceasefire agreement and issued a severe warning. He stated, “United States aircraft just struck Iranian missile and drone storage locations, and coastal radar sites, for violating the Cease Fire Agreement, AGAIN! It is very possible that they will never learn! There may come a point when we are no longer able to be reasonable, and will be forced to militarily complete the job that we very successfully started. If that happens, the Islamic Republic of Iran will no longer exist!” CENTCOM noted that Iranian forces had launched a drone that targeted the Panama-flagged tanker M/T Kiku around 04:30 ET on Saturday, which was in transit near the Strait of Hormuz at the time of the incident.
