Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte faced deep disappointment over the weekend after sustaining a serious injury.

The Uruguayan international suffered a severe setback during his country’s 1-0 defeat to Spain in the World Cup group stage, an unfortunate blow that not only ended Uruguay’s campaign but also ruled Ugarte out of action for several months.

Initial medical examinations have confirmed damage to Ugarte’s knee ligaments, though further assessments are required to determine the exact treatment plan and recovery timeline.

Manchester United had reportedly planned to offload the midfielder this summer to raise funds for another midfield signing, but those plans are now in doubt following his injury.

Ugarte took to social media to share his emotions and reflect on the difficult moment. He wrote that a few days had passed since the incident and that the reality was still sinking in.

He expressed his heartbreak, saying that suffering one of the worst injuries a footballer can endure during one of the most significant matches in his country’s history—and being unable to finish the game or support his teammates until the end—was something that would remain with him forever.

Despite the setback, the 25-year-old conveyed optimism about his recovery, insisting that he would return stronger than before. Ugarte stated that hitting rock bottom would only serve to make him more resilient and that life sometimes forces people to slow down for a reason.

He further emphasised that it was his responsibility to take positives from the situation, observing that true success lies in the ability to rise again every time one falls.

Ugarte also extended his gratitude to the Uruguayan Football Association and Manchester United for their continued support, while expressing heartfelt appreciation to his family and friends for their love and encouragement throughout this difficult period.
