Nowadays, the Aadhaar card is used for almost every essential task, whether government-related or private. Therefore, all details associated with the Aadhaar card should remain up-to-date to avoid any issues. Keeping this in mind, the UIDAI has offered significant relief to the public. From July 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026, you can update your email ID in your Aadhaar card completely free of charge. Previously, a fee of ₹75 was charged for this service, but during this specified period, no payment will be required; this means that if your email ID is not linked to your Aadhaar or is outdated, you can easily update it at no cost.
The UIDAI has announced this via a post on its X (formerly Twitter) handle. According to the UIDAI, the standard fee for updating an email ID in Aadhaar is ₹75 (inclusive of GST). However, from July 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026, there will be no charge for updating the email ID via the Aadhaar mobile app—making the service entirely free during this time. Please note that this waiver applies only to email updates made through the Aadhaar mobile app; applicable fees may still apply if the update is done through other channels.
Why is it important to link an email ID to Aadhaar?
Linking an email ID to Aadhaar offers several benefits. For instance, you receive important notifications and updates related to your Aadhaar directly in your email inbox. Additionally, you receive timely alerts regarding any misuse of your Aadhaar or any suspicious activity. Having an email linked also makes it easier to retrieve your Aadhaar number, enrollment ID, or other details if needed.
