Ruben Amorim has made an immediate impact at San Siro by authorising a record-breaking transfer to secure his first signing as AC Milan’s manager. The Rossoneri have officially completed the high-profile acquisition of Portuguese forward Goncalo Ramos from Paris Saint-Germain.
A record-breaking deal for Milan
Milan confirmed the signing of Ramos for a reported club-record sum of around £60 million (€70 million). The 25-year-old striker has inked a long-term deal with the Italian giants that will keep him at the club until 2031.
This move marks a major statement of ambition from Milan’s management as they aim to rebuild after a disappointing season. The acquisition of Ramos breaks the club’s previous transfer record, surpassing the £42 million paid to Lille for Rafael Leao in 2019.
A stellar journey to San Siro
Ramos arrives at Milan with an impressive résumé at both domestic and international levels. Having come through the youth ranks of Olhanense and Benfica, he burst onto the global stage with a stunning hat-trick for Portugal against Switzerland during the 2022 World Cup. His spell in France proved equally successful, where he enjoyed a trophy-laden period with Paris Saint-Germain.
During his time in Paris, Ramos netted 45 goals in 131 appearances, contributing to an era that saw PSG capture three Ligue 1 titles and two Champions League crowns.
A new era begins for the Rossoneri
The addition of Ramos is seen as a crucial step in addressing Milan’s lack of cutting edge in recent seasons. Amorim, who signed a two-year contract last month, has been tasked with restoring the seven-time European champions to the summit of Italian football. The significant investment in Ramos demonstrates the board’s commitment to providing the former Sporting CP tactician with the financial backing needed to compete at the highest level.
Having established himself as one of Portugal’s most promising stars during his 100-plus appearances for Benfica, Ramos brings a blend of strength, intelligence, and technical prowess. He is expected to take on a leading role immediately, as Milan strive to reclaim their place among the top contenders in Serie A and return to the Champions League elite.
PSG’s reshuffle continues
While Milan celebrate their new signing, Paris Saint-Germain are already moving to fill the gap left by Ramos. The French champions, under chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi and sporting adviser Luis Campos, are reportedly eyeing RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande — a player also being monitored by Premier League side Liverpool.
Head coach Luis Enrique is eager to rejuvenate his squad following a campaign that saw PSG secure a second consecutive Champions League title alongside another Ligue 1 triumph. Reports indicate that South Korean midfielder Lee Kang-in and French forward Randal Kolo Muani could also depart as the club seeks to balance finances and create space for new arrivals.
