Joan Laporta has formally commenced his third tenure as president of FC Barcelona after being sworn into office, following his decisive victory in the club’s presidential elections earlier this year.

The experienced administrator won 67.93% of the votes in the election held on 15 March, comfortably defeating Victor Font, who secured 29.67% of the ballots.

With no opposition left, Laporta begins another chapter at the helm of the Catalan giants. He previously led the club between 2003 and 2010 and returned for a second stint from 2021 to 2026.

The inauguration ceremony symbolised the beginning of what Laporta hopes will be another prosperous era for Barcelona, both on and off the field.

Among the attendees at the ceremony were key figures from the current Barcelona project, including head coach Hansi Flick, sporting director Deco, and other senior executives who will form part of the new board.

Laporta will continue as president, with Rafa Yuste remaining as first vice-president. Elena Fort, Ferran Olive, Joan Sole, and Antonio Escudero have been appointed as vice-presidents, while Josep Cubells retains his position as secretary and Tito Castro continues as treasurer.

Addressing the gathering, Laporta spoke about the faith placed in his leadership.

“Thank you to everyone here. Thank you to President Tebas. I already consider you a friend. We are making a great effort with the stadium, and it will be the best in the world,” he said.

“It will generate significant revenue so that the La Liga committee can grant us ‘fair play’ approval, enabling us to strengthen our financial standing.”

Laporta’s speech also focused on the unwavering support he has received from Barcelona’s members over recent years.

“I want to tell you that we are back here thanks to the will of the Barça members,” he continued. “They renewed their trust in us, and I want to congratulate all the members who participated. It was an admirable democratic day, just like Barça. For the last five years, you have been loyal to the club.”

He also reflected on the obstacles faced during his previous years in charge.

“Being president is a great honour and a great responsibility. This period has not been easy. We had to manage profound changes and navigate extreme situations,” he said.

“We did not give up because we had support. We fought off attacks from rivals and stood up to the insolent. We overcame all obstacles and we are back.”

“There are some who have not accepted that Barça has become a respected and beloved institution. I am convinced that the coming years will be full of excitement.”

“A strong Barça will be consolidated, and the Spotify Camp Nou will be completed.”

The redevelopment of Spotify Camp Nou remains a cornerstone of Laporta’s long-term vision for the club.

He also praised Hansi Flick, acknowledging the positive influence the German coach has had since taking charge.

“Hansi Flick, we are very proud of what you are doing. In the coming years, the seeds we have planted will take root. We cannot let our guard down,” Laporta said.

He added, “Hansi, the fans were fully behind you. You have built a united team that has struck a chord with the Culers. We have experienced this with great enthusiasm.”

Laporta reaffirmed that La Masia continues to be central to Barcelona’s footballing philosophy.

“La Masia is one of our club’s greatest treasures. It has brought us back to excellence. Many of the things we predicted have come true. La Masia has set us on the path to success.”

The president also underlined the club’s growing commercial power.

“It is a club that generates more than 1.1 billion euros, with landmark partnerships such as Nike and Spotify,” he said.

“Forbes valued Barça at 4.8 billion dollars in 2021; in the latest report, it has already risen to 5.7 billion.”

As he wrapped up his address, Laporta called for unity and continued progress.

“We have a team that inspires with Flick and Deco, and sections that maintain the level of excellence we demand, giving hope to Barça fans,” he stated.

“We will have the best stadium and will continue to be ‘more than a club.’”

“With stability, we will achieve even more. Barça will be respected and admired. Thank you very much. Long live Barça and long live Catalonia,” he concluded.
