LPG Cylinder: If you use an LPG cylinder, this news is for you. If your cylinder is stolen or lost, will your gas connection be disconnected? If you aren't aware, learn the rules regarding this.
Lost LPG Cylinder: LPG cylinders are used in most households today. However, incidents of cylinder theft do occur. People have faced various challenges regarding LPG cylinders recently, and the price of domestic LPG cylinders was also hiked some time ago. Naturally, losing a cylinder or having it stolen can cause significant trouble. Many people might wonder if losing the cylinder leads to the cancellation of the gas connection. Therefore, it is important to know the relevant rules.
What to do if the cylinder is lost
Your gas connection is not cancelled simply because the cylinder is lost; you just need to complete the necessary formalities.
If the cylinder is lost or stolen, you should take immediate action:
First, file a complaint at your nearest police station.
Make sure to provide the unique number printed on the cylinder when filing the complaint.
This will make it easier to identify the cylinder.
Inform the gas company about the incident
You must provide all details regarding the incident to your gas agency in writing. Along with this, you will need to submit certain documents, such as:
The original subscription voucher
The identity proof of the person in whose name the connection is registered
A copy of the FIR filed with the police
A fine will be charged for the lost cylinder
If the gas cylinder is lost for any reason, the gas company may charge you a fine. You might have to pay between ₹1,000 and ₹3,000. However, the final amount depends on whether only the cylinder is lost or if the regulator is missing as well. Additionally, the gas company may charge a fine or a security deposit based on its specific rules.
How to get a new cylinder?
After you submit all the necessary documents, the gas agency will verify them. You will be issued a new cylinder only after all formalities are completed and the prescribed security deposit or penalty has been paid.
