At present, the eyes of the whole world are focused on Tehran regarding the state funeral of Iran’s former supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Veteran leaders from many countries around the world are reaching Iran to participate in this historic and very emotional farewell ceremony. On this very special occasion, a large and high-level delegation from India is also going to visit Iran.
The Indian External Affairs Ministry has made an official announcement in this regard. On behalf of the government, Minister of State for External Affairs Pavitra Margherita and Bihar Governor Syed Ata Hasnain are going to represent India at the funeral of Khamenei. Both these big leaders will fly to Iran on July 3 and take part in the last farewell programs to be held there. Apart from these, many other big faces of Indian politics will also witness this ceremony.
PM Narendra Modi himself had received the invitation, but why is he not able to go to Iran?
The biggest thing in this whole matter is that Iranian President Masoud Pejeshkian had specially invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend this funeral program. However, due to his very busy schedule and pre-planned programs, PM Modi himself is not able to go to Iran on this tour.
This is why the Government of India, considering the sensitivity of bilateral relations, decided to send Minister of State for External Affairs Pavitra Margherita and Governor Syed Ata Hasnain for official representation. A statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday said that this high-level representation of India at this funeral will further deepen the centuries-old and long-standing strong relations between the two countries. According to the ministry, this visit will also prove to be very important in giving new heights to the political, economic and strategic relations between India and Iran.
This big leader of BJP also received a message, Mehbooba and Khurshid will also participate.
Apart from the official delegation of the Government of India, the Government of Iran has also personally invited leaders of many other major political parties of the country. A formal invitation letter has been sent by Iran to senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi. Naqvi himself has confirmed that he has received the invitation, although he has not yet clarified whether he will go to Iran on this tour or not.
In this special invitation letter sent by Mohsin Kummi, Director of the International Relations Department of the Office of the Supreme Leader of Iran, the deep historical and strategic relations between India and Iran have been cited. In the letter, Naqvi has been requested to attend this very important function as a special guest of India.
On the other hand, from the main opposition party Congress, former Union Minister and senior leader Salman Khurshid is going to attend this state funeral ceremony. Khurshid confirmed this and said that he is leaving on this tour to Iran to represent his party. Along with this, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti has also received an official invitation from the Government of Iran. Mehbooba Mufti happily accepted this invitation and called it a great honor for herself and said that she would herself go to Iran to pay her last tribute to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The last farewell will continue from 5th to 9th July, know why he died
All the main programs to the funeral of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will be organized from July 5 to July 9. According to the schedule, huge tribute meetings will be organized in Iran’s major cities Tehran and Qom on July 5, 6 and 7, where the general public and foreign guests will be able to pay their respects. After this, he will be laid to rest (buried) with full state honors in Mashhad city on 9th July.
Let us tell you that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei held the post of supreme leader of Iran for almost three decades and the command of power of the entire country was in his hands. He died on February 28 this year during a major joint air attack by Israel and America on Iran, after which there is an atmosphere of mourning in Iran.
