In the current situation, it appears that only the weather can halt France’s march toward the 2026 World Cup trophy. After being briefly interrupted by lightning and thunder during their 3–0 group-stage victory over Iraq, Les Bleus are once again under the shadow of potential weather disruption today.
As officially announced by FIFA, the round-of-16 fixture between France and Paraguay in Philadelphia might be postponed due to an incoming storm. Under the 2026 World Cup safety regulations, referees are instructed to delay or suspend any match if a thunderstorm is detected within a 13-kilometre radius of the stadium.
The final decision on whether the match will proceed as scheduled is expected within the next few hours.
