Gurnoor Brar has wreaked havoc in red ball cricket on Sri Lankan soil. He led India A to a big win by taking 10 wickets on the lifeless pitch of Galle International Stadium in the second unofficial test against Sri Lanka A. Thanks to this impressive performance, this tall fast bowler has presented his strong claim for next month’s 2-Test series in Sri Lanka.

6 wickets lost on the fourth day

Brar took 4 wickets and ended Sri Lanka A’s first innings at 366 runs. After this, thanks to Sai Sudarshan’s 168 runs, India-A scored a huge score of 543 runs in its first innings and took a huge lead of 177 runs. On the fourth and last day of the match (Sunday), Brar broke the back of Sri Lanka-A by taking 6 wickets in the second innings and completed his 10 wicket haul.

In front of his stormy bowling, Sri Lanka A team collapsed after scoring 209 runs in the second innings. India-A got the target of only 33 runs to win. Sai Sudarshan and Aman Mokhade took India A to the threshold of victory without any loss in 6.2 overs. The first match of this series was a draw. India-A won the series 1-0. This tour was very successful for India-A. The team had earlier won the title of ODI Tri Series held in Dambulla.

The Test series between India and Sri Lanka will start in Galle from August 15. Earlier, regular Test players Sai Sudarshan, Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel got good match practice on this tour.

Will Brar get a chance to debut?

Brar’s performance was much more impressive than that of Aaqib Nabi, another contender for a place in the team for the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka. This fast bowler from Punjab also impressed while making his debut for India in the ODI series against Afghanistan last month. He was also a part of the Test team but did not get a chance to debut. It will be interesting to see whether he is handed the Test debut cap after his brilliant bowling in Sri Lanka.
