In the politics of Bihar, political activity has intensified regarding the Bankipur assembly by-election. Jan Suraj Party has declared party leader Prashant Kishor as its candidate from the high-profile Bankipur seat of Patna. Party state president Manoj Bharti made this official announcement in a press conference held in Patna on Sunday. During this time Prashant Kishore was also present with him. ‎ ‎

With the announcement of the candidature, the long-running speculations came to an end. This decision has been taken by Jan Suraj at a time when all the major parties are busy making their own strategies regarding the Bankipur by-election. Political analysts believe that the contest for this seat has become more interesting with the entry of Prashant Kishore. ‎ ‎

After being declared the candidate, Prashant Kishore expressed his gratitude to the party leadership and said, “I thank the party and accept this responsibility. We will contest the elections from Bankipur with strength. If we get the blessings of the public, we will win and will try our best to live up to their expectations. If the public gives us a chance, I will raise their voice strongly in the Assembly.” ‎ ‎

He further said, “I assure them that Jan Suraj has been my life for the last four years and for the next ten years, until the dream of change in Bihar is realized, I have no other objective. I consider the responsibility of contesting the Bankipur by-election as a step towards that goal.” ‎

‎He said that in November 2025, thousands and lakhs of people were associated with the ideas and efforts of Jan Suraj. Many people were disappointed or discouraged after the results. Most of them believe that if Jansuraj wins the Bankipur by-election, it will not only strengthen the movement but will also help in reviving the dream of change in Bihar. ‎

It is noteworthy that Prashant Kishore has been continuously active in Bankipur assembly constituency for the last several weeks. He is holding public meetings, street meetings and dialogue programs with the local people. In such a situation, his candidature was being considered a part of the already decided strategy.

Bankipur assembly seat has become vacant after BJP national president Nitin Naveen was elected as Rajya Sabha member. After Nitin Naveen, who has been representing this seat continuously, went to the Upper House, the Election Commission has announced by-elections here. ‎

‎According to the schedule of the Election Commission, voting on Bankipur Assembly seat will be held on July 30. The electoral contest is expected to become more interesting after Prashant Kishor is fielded from Jan Suraj’s side on this seat. Now all eyes are on the candidates of BJP and other opposition parties, after whose announcement the election picture will be more clear.
