London City Lionesses have officially announced the signing of two-time Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas.
The 32-year-old midfielder joins the English side following her departure from Barcelona, concluding a remarkable 14-year stint with the Catalan club.
Expressing her excitement, Putellas said, “I am thrilled to begin this new chapter with London City Lionesses. The club’s ambition and its unwavering commitment to growth as an independent, women-only organisation truly resonate with me.”
She added, “I look forward to contributing on the pitch as we aim for titles. Off the field, building on my passion for youth development, I am equally eager to collaborate with Michele Kang in advancing women’s football both in England and globally.”
London City owner Michele Kang praised the signing, saying, “Alexia Putellas represents the highest standards of talent, dedication, and vision in women’s football. Her decision to join our independent, women-first club is a strong affirmation of what we are creating at London City.”
