Barcelona have officially stepped up their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund winger Karim Adeyemi by submitting a formal bid for the German international. The 24-year-old forward has reportedly told the Bundesliga side that he wishes to leave after talks over a contract extension at Signal Iduna Park failed to reach an agreement.
Personal terms settled for Camp Nou switch
The Catalan club have moved swiftly to secure Adeyemi’s signature, with Sky Sport reporting that the pacey attacker is fully committed to joining Barcelona this summer. Adeyemi has already reached a verbal agreement on a long-term contract with the Spanish champions, paving the way for the move pending an agreement between the two clubs on the transfer fee.
Dortmund are said to value their player at around €40 million, particularly as he approaches the final stages of his current deal. Having developed into one of Germany’s most dangerous wingers, Adeyemi’s decision to look for a new challenge has prompted Dortmund to consider selling him now rather than risk losing him for a lower fee next year.
Flick’s influence and Mendes’ involvement
Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick is understood to be one of the biggest supporters of the move. Flick knows Adeyemi well from their time together with the German national team and considers him an ideal fit for his high-intensity, pressing style of play. The forward’s speed, directness, and ability to operate across the front line would give Flick valuable tactical flexibility as he continues to build an attack that already includes Lamine Yamal and Raphinha.
The deal has also been smoothed by the involvement of renowned agent Jorge Mendes, who represents Adeyemi. Mendes has reportedly proposed the player to Barcelona on several previous occasions, but the club’s financial difficulties prevented progress. With a more structured financial approach now in place, negotiations have gained serious momentum.
No effect on Julian Alvarez pursuit
Despite the strong push to sign Adeyemi, Barcelona are not expected to stop there. Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano reports that the potential signing of the German winger will not interfere with the club’s pursuit of a new number nine, with Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez still their top target for the central striker position.
Barcelona’s interest in Alvarez dates back to May, and the management remains determined to bring in the Argentine forward to add competition and a clinical edge in attack for the long term.
Possible player exchange options
Given Barcelona’s ongoing efforts to balance their wage bill and manage spending, the club is exploring alternative ways to reduce the €40 million cash outlay. One option on the table is a player-swap arrangement involving fringe or young talents to make the deal more appealing to Dortmund. Reports indicate that Roony Bardghji and Guille Fernandez are among the names being discussed in potential exchange scenarios.
Bardghji, who joined Barcelona with high expectations, has grown frustrated over limited first-team opportunities, while Fernandez is a player Dortmund have been monitoring for some time.
