Uttarakhand Weather Today: Due to heavy rainfall, all schools and Anganwadi centers in Nainital (Haldwani) and Haridwar will remain closed on July 10. Here is the latest update for Dehradun, Pauri, and other districts, along with guidelines for parents.
Monsoon rains have unleashed their fury across Uttarakhand recently. Continuous torrential downpours—from the mountains to the plains—have completely disrupted normal life. With waterlogging in various areas, rising river water levels, and the threat of landslides in the hills, the administration is on high alert. Consequently, the District Magistrates of Nainital and Haridwar have declared a holiday for all schools and Anganwadi centers in their respective districts for July 10.
Decision to keep schools closed in Nainital (Haldwani)
Nainital district—particularly Haldwani and its surrounding hilly areas—has been experiencing intermittent heavy rainfall over the past few days. There is a constant risk of debris falling and roads getting blocked on mountain routes due to the rain. Given the severity of the situation, the District Magistrate of Nainital has announced a holiday for all government, semi-government, and private schools on July 10. Strict instructions have also been issued to keep all Anganwadi centers in the district completely closed to ensure the safety of young children. This order applies to all students from Class 1 to Class 12.
All schools to remain closed in Haridwar
Heavy rainfall has also compounded difficulties for residents in Haridwar district. Severe waterlogging issues have emerged in both urban and rural areas, severely affecting traffic. Additionally, river water levels are rising rapidly due to rains in the hills. In light of this, the District Magistrate of Haridwar has issued an official order to keep all schools in the district closed on July 10. All schools affiliated with the CBSE, ICSE, and Uttarakhand boards, as well as Anganwadi centers, will remain closed in Haridwar as well.
Are schools closed in other districts of the state too?
Regarding other districts in Uttarakhand, the Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rainfall alert for the entire state. Significant rainfall is being observed in Dehradun, Pauri, and Udham Singh Nagar as well; however, there is no update yet regarding school closures in these districts.
Points for parents to keep in mind
The administration has declared a school holiday to ensure the safety of children; therefore, it is important to pay special attention to a few things at home as well.
Do not allow children to play in rainwater or go outside during the holiday. Open manholes and waterlogged areas can be dangerous.
There is a risk of power lines snapping due to rain and strong winds. Instruct children to stay away from electricity poles and transformers.
Do not pay heed to rumors or fake messages circulating on social media. Verify information regarding school closures only through the district administration or official messages from the school.
