A man carrying a wrench gained access to the media centre at England’s World Cup training camp, prompting the Football Association (FA) to launch a security review following the incident in Kansas City.

Police were called to the venue on Thursday after the man, who appeared to be in distress, entered the media room before any players or coaching staff arrived for their scheduled press duties. According to reports, the intruder attempted to leave the premises upon hearing unrelated sirens nearby but was stopped, disarmed, and later departed peacefully after being escorted away by officers.

The FA confirmed that no players or coaching personnel were under any threat during the incident, as only FA employees and journalists were present inside the media centre at the time. Officials have stated that a comprehensive review will now be undertaken to assess security protocols at the camp.

The media facility, located within a community building approximately half a mile from the training pitches at Swope Soccer Village, is normally secured by on-site guards. On the day of the intrusion, only Thomas Tuchel and Anthony Barry were due to attend media engagements.

England are currently in preparation for their World Cup quarter-final clash against Norway, which is scheduled to take place in Miami on Saturday evening. The team is expected to fly to Florida on Friday ahead of the fixture.

Defender Jarrell Quansah will miss the quarter-final after receiving a red card in the match against Mexico. He has been handed a two-match suspension, ruling him out until the final should England progress that far.

There are also fitness concerns over Reece James, Marc Guehi, and Declan Rice. Chelsea captain James remains sidelined with a hamstring injury sustained in England’s second group game, while Guehi has missed training this week with a similar issue. Rice, meanwhile, is recovering from illness.

A win over Norway would see England advance to the semi-finals, where they would face either Argentina or Switzerland.
