Switzerland international Johan Manzambi is on the brink of finalising a transfer to Aston Villa, with the West Midlands club expected to edge out Newcastle United in securing his signature.
The SC Freiburg midfielder had been heavily linked with a move to St James' Park this summer, and discussions were understood to be in their final stages.
However, according to Fabrizio Romano, it is now Aston Villa who are set to complete the signing of the 20-year-old for a reported fee exceeding €60 million. A long-term contract is said to have already been agreed between the player and the Birmingham-based side.
Manzambi featured four times for Switzerland at the 2026 World Cup before suffering an injury but still made a significant impact, scoring three goals and providing two assists for his national team. At club level, the young midfielder was equally influential last season, making 47 appearances for Freiburg, netting seven goals, and delivering six assists.
This transfer, if completed, would represent a major coup for Aston Villa as they continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
