In today's health tips, we discuss a problem that is often overlooked but serves as an early warning sign of potential danger. You may have often noticed people experiencing a sharp, stinging sensation or a "zing" in their teeth immediately after drinking cold or hot water.

Most people dismiss this as a minor issue, but it can actually signal a serious dental problem. Professor Dr. Amit Kumar from Begusarai shared detailed information regarding this condition.

Professor Dr. Amit Kumar told  that this condition is known as "dentin hypersensitivity." He explained that if a person has untreated dental caries (tooth decay) for a prolonged period, the decay gradually spreads and reaches very close to the tooth's nerve.

Professor Dr. Amit Kumar noted that in such cases, when the person consumes cold or hot liquids, the impact reaches the nerve directly, causing intense sensitivity or a stinging sensation. He stated that the first step in treating this issue is usually advising the patient to use anti-sensitivity toothpaste.

In many instances, regular use of such toothpaste provides relief. However, he added that if anti-sensitivity toothpaste fails to alleviate the discomfort, one should consult a local dentist without delay. During the examination, the dentist checks for long-standing tooth decay or other underlying issues.

Dr. Amit Kumar further explained that improper brushing habits can also cause tooth sensitivity. Faulty brushing techniques can wear down the tooth's dentin layer, making the teeth sensitive and leading to that stinging sensation when consuming hot or cold food and drinks. In the final stages, you should visit a nearby dentist; such services are also available at government hospitals.
