AC Milan are preparing to make a bold move for Atalanta midfielder Ederson following the breakdown of his anticipated transfer to Manchester United. The 27-year-old Brazilian has quickly become the ideal acquisition for newly appointed Milan head coach Ruben Amorim, who is determined to keep the highly regarded central midfielder in Serie A.
United transfer falls through
In an unexpected twist, Ederson’s proposed move to Manchester United has fallen apart. The midfielder was on the verge of joining the Premier League giants, but the deal encountered a last-minute setback. Despite completing his medical tests, the transfer was abruptly called off, leaving the player’s future uncertain.
The collapse of the transfer has left the former Salernitana star in limbo, having been ready to make the switch from Bergamo to Manchester. However, the breakdown of talks with the Red Devils has quickly drawn the attention of several major European clubs eager to capitalise on the situation.
Amorim’s top target revealed
According to reports from Calciomercato, new Milan boss Amorim has wasted no time in identifying key reinforcements for the Rossoneri midfield. The Portuguese tactician is reportedly a huge admirer of Ederson and sees the Brazilian as his “dream” signing to anchor Milan’s restructured squad at the San Siro. Amorim’s appointment has brought a shift in the club’s transfer strategy, emphasising players with established Serie A experience.
The Milan board has already opened discussions with Atalanta to assess the feasibility of a potential transfer. Ederson has developed into one of Serie A’s most dependable and dynamic midfielders, fitting perfectly into Amorim’s tactical setup as Milan aim to mount another serious challenge for the Scudetto.
Atalanta demand significant fee
While Milan are eager to strike a deal, Atalanta are renowned for their firm negotiating stance. The Bergamo-based side currently value Ederson at around €50 million. However, the player’s contract situation could influence the final outcome of talks.
Ederson’s existing deal runs until June 2027, but there are murmurs that Atalanta might have to reconsider their asking price should they fail to secure a renewal. The club is aware that the midfielder’s market value could decline as his contract runs down, potentially giving Milan leverage to negotiate a more favourable transfer fee.
Amorim considering United links
In addition to his pursuit of Ederson, Amorim is reportedly seeking to reunite with his former player, Noussair Mazraoui. The Portuguese coach, who took charge at Milan last month following Massimiliano Allegri’s exit, has informed the club’s hierarchy that the Moroccan international is a key target to strengthen the defensive line.
Since completing his £17 million transfer from Bayern Munich to Manchester United in 2024, Mazraoui has become an important figure at Old Trafford, amassing 77 appearances due to his exceptional adaptability across the backline. Amorim’s interest in the full-back highlights his intent to blend proven experience with tactical flexibility as Milan prepare for the new season.
