UIDAI Aadhaar Update: If you use the Aadhaar app on your smartphone and haven't changed your PIN in a long time, you should change it immediately. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has advised users via a post on the social media platform X to change the six-digit PIN for their Aadhaar app periodically. Doing so enhances the security of sensitive information and services linked to Aadhaar.
Why is it important to change the PIN?
According to UIDAI, even if someone gets hold of your unlocked mobile phone, they will not be able to access your Aadhaar data if the Aadhaar app PIN is different.
Additionally, family members, friends, or people nearby might inadvertently see your PIN. Changing the PIN periodically reduces the risk of unauthorized access.
Which services does the Aadhaar app PIN protect?
UIDAI states that the PIN secures various essential features, such as Aadhaar data access, biometric locking/unlocking, e-KYC services, and other digital facilities linked to Aadhaar. Keeping your PIN secure minimizes the likelihood of these services being misused.
How do you change the Aadhaar app PIN?
If you haven't changed your PIN in a while and are planning to do so, follow these steps:
First, open the Aadhaar app on your smartphone and log in using your current 6-digit PIN.
Next, tap on the security option provided below.
Now, select the 'Change PIN' option.
Enter your current six-digit PIN first.
Then, enter the new six-digit PIN twice to confirm it.
What should you keep in mind when creating a PIN?
UIDAI also advises against using your date of birth, sequences like 123456 or 111111, or other easily guessable numbers when creating a PIN. Choose a PIN that is difficult to guess.
