Indian Railways is set to launch a new IRCTC website soon to enhance passenger convenience. The new website will be faster, simpler, and more user-friendly than the current one. It will make tasks such as ticket booking, cancellations, checking PNR status, accessing train information, and using other online services much easier. The Railways aims to provide a superior digital experience to the growing number of passengers and minimize technical glitches encountered during ticket booking.

The Railways has significantly upgraded the capacity of its online ticket booking system. The IRCTC platform will now be able to book over 1.5 lakh tickets per minute, a massive increase from the previous capacity of approximately 32,000 tickets per minute. This will alleviate the issue of high website load during 'Tatkal' ticket bookings. Passengers can look forward to faster booking, reduced waiting times, and an improved online experience, bringing significant relief to millions of travelers daily.

The capacity of the PNR status and train information systems has also been increased manifold. It will now be possible to handle over 40 lakh PNR and train-related inquiries per minute, compared to the earlier capacity of around 4 lakh inquiries per minute. This ensures that passengers receive PNR status updates, train timings, and other essential information much faster than before. It will also allow the website and app to easily handle the heavy traffic surges typically seen during festivals and peak travel seasons.

On the new IRCTC website, pages will load faster, and navigation will be smoother. This will be particularly beneficial during 'Tatkal' bookings, when lakhs of users log in simultaneously. The increased speed and improved system architecture will streamline the booking process, reducing issues like slow loading, page freezes, or frequent error messages.

Additionally, the new IRCTC website will eliminate the need to repeatedly enter CAPTCHA codes during ticket booking. The absence of intrusive pop-ups and advertisements will further expedite and simplify the process, saving passengers valuable time—especially when booking 'Tatkal' tickets. The aim is to provide users with a superior and smoother online experience, enabling them to book tickets quickly and without hassle.

Passengers will now have better options for selecting their preferred seat or berth during booking. Subject to availability, they can choose from lower, middle, upper, side lower, or side upper berths based on their requirements. This will offer greater convenience, particularly to the elderly, women, families traveling with children, and long-distance passengers, making the booking process easier and more user-friendly than before.

The new IRCTC website will also feature a 'Fare Calendar,' allowing passengers to view and compare train fares for different dates in one place. This facilitates the selection of days with lower fares and enables better travel planning, eliminating the need to repeatedly change dates just to check prices.

The new website will offer a multi-language interface, allowing passengers to book tickets, check PNR status, access train information, and utilize other railway services in their preferred language. Additionally, special services for differently-abled individuals, students, and patients will be available on a single platform, removing the need to navigate to different sections for various services. The new reservation system has been designed to handle approximately ten times the traffic volume of the previous system with ease, thereby reducing the likelihood of the website slowing down during peak periods such as festivals or 'Tatkal' ticket bookings.
