Didier Deschamps has assured that Kylian Mbappe will be fit to feature in France’s World Cup semi-final clash with Spain, easing fears of a possible ankle issue. The French captain took part in Monday’s training session but worked separately from the main group for a short period. Deschamps clarified that this was part of a planned recovery routine ahead of the crucial semi-final encounter.
Deschamps Calms Concerns Over Mbappe’s Fitness
The French manager confirmed that Mbappe will be available to play against Spain after speculation grew about his fitness. The forward was substituted in the 77th minute during France’s 2-0 victory over Morocco due to what he had described as a slight ankle injury. Doubts resurfaced when he trained individually on Monday, with RMC Sport reporting that he still felt slight discomfort. However, Deschamps dismissed any notion of a setback.
Deschamps Discusses France’s Injury Updates
Addressing the media ahead of the semi-final, Deschamps downplayed the situation, explaining the reasoning behind Mbappe’s adjusted training workload. “He feels fine,” Deschamps told The Athletic. Minimising the significance of the shortened drill, he added, “He, like others, has the option to go for 15 minutes instead of 20 minutes in a particular exercise.”
France Receive a Timely Double Boost
Mbappe enters the semi-final with eight goals in the tournament, currently leading the Golden Boot race ahead of Argentina’s Lionel Messi on assists. His confirmed fitness is a significant advantage for France as they prepare to face a confident Spanish side.
Additionally, the possible return of Aurelien Tchouameni could further bolster France’s midfield options after his recent absence. His inclusion would provide Deschamps with more tactical flexibility against a Spain team that has impressed with its possession-based football throughout the competition.
On Tchouameni’s condition, Deschamps commented: “Even though he was on the bench in the previous match, the risk was still high. He’s better today. I won’t say he’s completely recovered, but he’s now available for selection.”
Focus Shifts to Spain Clash
France’s attention now turns fully towards their World Cup semi-final showdown with Spain. With both Mbappe and Tchouameni expected to be fit, Deschamps will have a near full-strength squad to call upon. The return of key players gives the defending champions a timely boost as they gear up for one of their toughest challenges of the tournament.
