Erling Haaland has delighted football fans by returning to Oslo with an unusual $750 taxidermied raccoon after Norway’s exit from the 2026 World Cup. The Manchester City striker proudly displayed the eccentric souvenir, which he bought from a well-known Western store in Texas, as the Norwegian team’s flight landed back in Scandinavia.
Haaland’s curious memento
The Norway forward was seen carrying a stuffed raccoon holding a whisky bottle when the squad arrived in Oslo. The 25-year-old striker headed home following Norway’s strong World Cup campaign, which ended with a narrow 2-1 quarter-final defeat to England. The taxidermied raccoon, reportedly purchased for $750 from Wild Bill’s Western Store in Dallas, quickly became a viral topic among fans online.
Striker jokes about his new companion
Taking to his personal X account, the Manchester City star jokingly explained the story behind his now-famous souvenir as he stepped off the plane, writing, “It followed me home.”
Haaland also turned to his Instagram followers to help him name the raccoon, launching a poll with options including “Cowboy”, “Ranger”, “TEX”, and “R.O.W.”.
He further shared a message of appreciation to the United States after Norway’s memorable run came to an end, writing, “It’s been quite a row, thank you for making it so special.”
In another selfie, the prolific striker added a simple farewell caption: “Goodbye US, it’s been emotional.”
‘This has changed my life’
Although Norway’s World Cup journey concluded in the quarter-finals, the North American tournament has proven to be a defining experience for Haaland. The Manchester City forward emerged as the key figure driving his nation’s impressive performances, helping Norway compete confidently against the world’s best teams.
With seven goals to his name, Haaland not only boosted his global profile but also acknowledged the profound personal impact of the tournament. Speaking to the Associated Press, he reflected on his experience, saying, “I think this has changed my life, to be honest.”
What’s next for Haaland?
After taking a well-earned break, Haaland will soon return to domestic football as he joins Manchester City for pre-season training. The Norwegian striker will be keen to carry his fine international form into the upcoming Premier League and Champions League campaigns.
City’s new head coach, Enzo Maresca, will be eager to see Haaland continue his ruthless goal-scoring touch as the club aims to add more silverware to its collection next season.
