Manchester City are reportedly stepping up their pursuit of Lille’s talented midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi following his impressive performances at the World Cup. The Premier League champions are eager to bring the Moroccan starlet to the Etihad Stadium as they aim to strengthen their midfield ahead of the new season.
According to journalist David Ornstein from The Athletic, City are actively pushing to finalise a deal for Bouaddi after his standout World Cup campaign with Morocco. His eye-catching displays on the international stage have drawn the attention of numerous top European clubs seeking to secure the services of the 18-year-old prodigy. Lille’s hierarchy are said to be open to a transfer, provided an interested club meets their valuation soon.
The French side are reportedly waiting for Bouaddi to return from his post-World Cup break before engaging in discussions with his representatives to assess all possible options, including the prospect of him staying at the club. While Lille remain open to negotiations, they have placed a significant €100 million (£85 million) price tag on the young midfielder — a sum expected to narrow the list of potential buyers. Unlike some rivals who would consider loaning him back, Manchester City intend to integrate Bouaddi directly into their first-team setup this summer.
City’s keen interest in Bouaddi stems from their desire to reinforce their midfield following Bernardo Silva’s recent departure. The club have already invested £116 million in signing Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, further boosting their midfield depth. With Rodri’s current contract expiring in June 2027 and uncertainty surrounding the futures of other key players, Bouaddi’s potential arrival is viewed as a strategic long-term addition to the squad.
Bouaddi is expected to make a decision about his future soon as interest from top European clubs continues to mount. While both Arsenal and Manchester United have maintained communication with his camp over the past year, Manchester City currently appear to be leading the race for his signature. The young midfielder now faces a crucial choice — whether to take on the challenge of competing for a place in City’s starting eleven immediately or to continue his development in Ligue 1 with Lille.
