Allegation of sale of 40-year-old temple to build mosque. Sensation has spread in Britain’s Peterborough based on the incident. Temple authorities and Hindu organizations approached the court seeking justice. According to sources, the court has temporarily suspended the sale process.
It is known that an organization called ‘Bharat Hindu Samaj’ is in charge of managing the temple. The temple was established by Hindu families of Indian origin who took refuge in Britain from Uganda in the 1980s. However, the land on which the temple stands is owned by Peterborough City Council. Local Hindus claim that it is not just a place of worship, but a center of religious, cultural and social activities. Various festivals and events have been held here for many years. The temple authorities alleged that the council decided to sell the land without consulting them. Not only that, it is also alleged that they were not given any alternative place. Temple authorities claim that the land has been sold to a Muslim organisation. A mosque will be built there. After that they approached a British High Court.
On the other hand, Peterborough City Council said that the decision to sell the land was made in accordance with the law. There is nothing illegal about it. The entire process of land sale is transparent and legal. After hearing arguments from both sides, the judge issued an interim stay on the sale process. However, people of the Hindu community in Britain are worried about the whole issue. Everyone is looking forward to the verdict of the court.
