The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi has landed in a controversy after a serious allegation was levelled against him by the owners of the Major League Cricket (MLC). In a report carried by Pak Passion, a source who is very close to one of the owners in the league has dropped a bombshell.
Reports suggest that PCB is demanding 25,000$ for each player who has to be given a No Objection Certificate to play in the league. The certificate is a mandatory protocol for any active international cricketer who wishes to play in franchise cricket. It is a standard practice for the league to pay a certain amount of money to the player’s home cricket body.
For example, Mitchell Starc’s participation in the league will see Cricket Australia receive a certain amount of money. PCB, on the other hand, as per reports, has come up with its outrageous demands at the last minute. That is when the teams don’t have much time to sign cricketers as replacements.
This practice could see cricketers from Pakistan being ignored in future MLC seasons. None of the players has played in the IPL since their ban in 2009. It was also reported that many owners took up the matter with Mohsin Naqvi and explained their situation.
MLC team owners feeling ‘extorted’
The general feeling is that the stakeholders were feeling ‘exploited and extorted’. In response, the MLC team owners were told that PCB held the right to demand money. To make matters worse, such demands are only coming from the Pakistani board.
Fast bowler Haris Rauf is the only Pakistani player to be part of the MLC 2026 season. The right-arm seamer is a part of the San Francisco Unicorns team, which is slated to take on the LA Knight Riders in the first qualifier on Wednesday. 32-year-old has picked 10 wickets from eight matches this season.
Shaheen Afridi has already been given the NOC to play for Kandy Royals in the upcoming Lanka Premier League 2026 season. Kandy, led by Angelo Mathews, are the current defending champions, having won the title in 2024 under their previous avatar called Kandy Falcons. It is to be noted that the LPL 2025 season didn’t take place because SLC wanted to get its stadiums ready for the 2026 T20 World Cup.
