India on alert regarding Hormuz route amid Iran-US tension, advisory issued to stop deployment of sailors

New Delhi: In view of the increasing tension in West Asia and the worsening security situation between Iran and America, India has taken precautionary measures for the safety of its sailors. Let us tell you, the Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping) has issued a new advisory directing shipping companies, ship owners and management agencies not to deploy Indian sailors on ships passing through the Hormuz Strait until further orders.

Circular issued by DG Shipping

In the circular number 36/2026 issued by DG Shipping, it has been said that the security situation in the Gulf region remains sensitive. In such a situation, this decision has been taken while giving top priority to the safety of Indian sailors. According to the instructions, until the situation becomes normal, Indian crew will not be sent on ships passing through the Hormuz Strait.

The Directorate General has also advised all companies operating in the Persian Gulf, Hormuz Waterway and surrounding maritime areas to exercise greater caution. It has been clarified in the advisory that all navigational warnings and safety information issued in the area should be continuously monitored.

Strict instructions to follow ISPS Code

Apart from this, instructions have been given to ensure strict adherence to the International Ship and Port Facilities Security Code (ISPS Code). It has been asked to maintain reporting and coordination through Information Fusion Center-Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR) and DG Communication Center (MMDAC) to immediately disseminate information about any emergency to the concerned agencies.

Keeping an eye on the Gulf areas

DG Shipping said in its official statement that it is continuously monitoring the changing situation in the Gulf region and further instructions will be issued as per the situation. Along with this, it was also reiterated that the safety, security and welfare of Indian seafarers are among the top priorities of the government.

In fact, this advisory has been issued at a time when increasing tension in West Asia has increased the possibility of affecting global maritime trade and shipping activities. In such a situation, this step is being considered an important security measure for Indian sailors and shipping companies.
